SB 1045: Expanding Conservatorships
STATUS: sb 1045 STATUS: SB 906 WAS SENT TO THE ASSEMBLY APPROPRIATIONS COMMITTEE SUSPENSE FILE ON 8/8/2018, THE BILL IS SET ASIDE FOR A LATER HEARING DATE (TO BE DETERMINED).
This bill would establish a pilot program in San Francisco and Los Angeles Counties, if the counties approve, creating a conservatorship for a person who is unable to care for their own health and well-being due to serious mental illness and substance use disorder. SB 1045 would providing the least restrictive and most clinically appropriate alternative needed for the protection of the person who is incapable of caring for the person’s own health.
Once a bill passes out of committee, it moves to the floor where the author of the bill can bring it up for a vote. Letting your representative know how you feel about the bill is an important advocacy action to inform how representative votes on a bill on the floor.
